8/19/10 - Royals Open Season With Win Over Yellowjackets
Azusa, CA- Hope International Women’s Volleyball opened their 2010 schedule with a 3-1 win (25-16, 25-19, 16-25, 25-19) over Black Hills State (SD) on Thursday evening. Junior Naomi Iosia led the way with a double-double of 13 kills and 15 digs.
The Royals (1-0) and Yellowjackets (0-1) played fairly even throughout the match and the final stats prove it. The Royals recorded 41 kills while the Yellowjackets finished with 39 kills. Hitting wise HIU managed a .128 night while BHSU hit .078. Both teams finished with 5 blocks while the Royals were out dug (51-50).
Set one and two went in favor of the Royals thanks to their holding the Yellowjackets to a negative hitting percentage in the two sets. But BHSU turned it around in the third set and out hit HIU .257 to .121.
In the fourth and final set, the score was tied 14-14 when the Royals used a 4-0 run to take control of the set. In fact, the Royals closed out the match on 11-5 run.
Seniors Ashley Travis and Amanda Elliott helped the Royals cause with 7 kills a piece on the night.
Senior Jocelyn Moya had 12 digs.
The Royals return to the court at Azusa Pacific on Friday to face off with Viterbo from Wisconsin. First serve is scheduled for 4:30 pm.
