3/27/10 - Massetti and Royals Dominate Hawks

Fullerton, CA- Junior Brett Massetti has his way in the middle against Holy Names on Saturday as he led Hope International to a 3-0 win (30-15, 30-20, 30-24) with 12 kills and a .688 hitting performance.
All three sets on Saturday started with the Hawks (4-9) scoring the first point of the set- twice on attack errors by the Royals (10-8). Then in all three sets the Royals tied the score at 1-1 before taking the lead at 2-1. HIU did not give back the lead in any of the sets after taking the 2-1 lead. Aside from the 1-1 ties, Holy Names was only able to force five other ties all night with 5-5 be the latest of any of the ties.
Hitting a season high .391 as a team, the Royals only had 11 hitting errors on the night.
Four of the seven traditional starters (including all three Seniors) played in just one rotation of one set and did not record one kill or dig as a group. But Massetti (#87) still had plenty of help.
Sophomore Andrew Speth swung away for 10 kills and a .412 hitting night.
Junior Ivan Zlatkov did not commit an error all night as he banged out 8 kills while hitting .471.
Freshman Bernard Luna had 8 kills with an impressive .538 hitting night.
Freshman Johannes Fuchs and Sophomore Jordan Doolittle both had three kills and three blocks.
Junior Mana Guerreiro rounded out the hitting with two kills.
Defensively, Junior Tyler Mullen led the charge with 7 digs. Junior Danilo Pereira and Sophomore Henry Valiente both had 6 digs while Pereira also added 16 assists.
Junior Andrew Marques was the high assist man with 28.
With their starters rested, the #2 Royals now turn their attention to Friday and Saturday when they face off with #3 Cardinal Stritch both nights. First serve is slated for 7:00 pm on Friday.>> Back to Men's Volleyball Home Page
