3/12/10 - Royals Make Quick Work of Crimson Eagles
By Tim Gooszen
Fullerton, CA- A night after being pushed to the brink of defeat, Hope International needed just three quick sets to knock off Philadelphia Biblical on Friday night- 30-18, 30-23, 30-21. Junior Brett Massetti had a match high 14 kills and 7 blocks.
The Crimson Eagles (16-8) scored the first point of the night before a kill by Senior Cory Hindemit tied the score at 1-1. Massetti tacked on a kill and the Royals (8-8) took their first lead of the night. They would not relinquish the lead the remainder of the set. HIU finished the first set hitting .414 as a team versus .118 for PBU. Massetti was a perfect 5-5 in the first set.
Set number two saw the Royals take the early lead, allow a couple of ties, and then surrender the lead at 13-12. The Royals regained the lead at 16-15 on a service ace by Freshman Kahale Morgan. The Royals hit only .190 but forced the Crimson Eagles into a negative hitting percentage. Massetti had a strong second set as well as he delivered on 6 of 9 attacks.
Like the first set, PBU scored the first point of the third set. Again the Royals answered immediately by tying the score and then though allowing a couple of ties never gave back the lead. No Royal had more than three kills in the final set.
Pacing the offense were Juniors Danilo Pereira and Andrew Marques who both dished out twenty assists.
The Royals will now have plenty of time to heal nagging injuries and catch up on school work as they do not play again until March 25 at home against Johnson and Wales.>> Back to Men's Volleyball Home Page
