2/2/10 - Royals Finish Road Trip 5-1

Denver, CO- Hope International wrapped up their season opening six road trip with a 3-1 win (30-23, 30-35, 23-30, 30-19) over Johnson & Wales on Tuesday night improving to 5-1 on the season.  Senior Alex Figueiredo and Sophomore Kaimi Guerreiro spearheaded the Royals attack with 14 kills apiece.

Neither team dominated the match with unstoppable offenses as the Royals produced a .273 hitting percentage in the first set which ultimately was a set high for either team for the match.  The Royals hit .132 on the night while the Wildcats hit .077.

Freshman Bernard Luna was the best hitter for anyone with double digit attempts as he produced 6 kills on 14 attempts with 2 errors for a .286 hitting night.

Senior Cory Hindemit had a solid night with 11 kills, .238 hitting, and 5 blocks.

Figueiredo reached his 14 kills on 35 attempts with 8 errors for a .171 hitting night.

Without a doubt, Guerreiro was the man of the night as he combined his 14 kills with 10 digs and 4 blocks (including 2 solos).

Defensively, Senior Noah Casaquit dug up 17 balls.  Junior Brett Massetti joined Hindemit with 5 blocks.

The Wildcats (2-5) were lead by Komakana Fernandez who had a match high 16 kills.  But the Royals also forced him into a match high 15 errors.

The Royals now return home to prepare for their home opening match against UC San Diego on Saturday.  First serve is scheduled 7:00 pm in the Darling Pavilion.
