3/26/10 - Small Victories Not Equal to Big Victory

By Stephanie Coats

Fullerton, CA- Another rough match was in store for the Royals when they faced off against NAIA No. 7 Westmont. The Warriors brought their best game and though the Royals tried to answer in kind, they were overcome 9-0.

Small victories were key for the Royals. On the doubles court, Freshmen Greg Cobian and Christian Booher nabbed a game off their opponents. However, the duo could not rack up in other games, causing them to fall 8-1.

Later during the singles matches, Freshman Jerry Laureano won a game in his first set against Diego Almeida. While Laureano worked hard to win the set as well, he could not answer Almeida’s strong game play and lost 2-0 (6-1, 6-0). Fellow Freshman Mike Lipert endured a similar fate after taking a game win off Stephen Wertheimer. Lipert battled to add more games to his score, but eventually lost 2-0 (6-1, 6-0).
