Fullerton, CA- As announced by the Golden State Athletic Conference yesterday, Senior Designated Player/Catcher Sheyna Alarcon was named the GSAC Softball Player of the Week for her efforts last week that included two walk-off game winning hits.

Alarcon, from Indio, CA, helped the Royals win three of their four games played last week as she hit .357 and drove in 5 runs.

On Tuesday, in the first game against Biola, Alarcon went 1-4 with a double and two runs scored.  Game two also saw her go 1-4 but she made her one count.  With the game tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning, she a hit a bloop single into right that scored teammate Kayla Uphold from third and gave Hope International the win and complete the double header sweep.

Against William Jessup on Thursday, Alarcon had an RBI single in her first at bat that gave the Royals a 1-0 lead.  In the end, the Royals fell 5-2.  But Alarcon started the second game like the first with an RBI single.  With Hope International down 3-1 in the top of the seventh Alarcon showed off her arm by throwing out a potential base stealer to end the inning.

That set up the dramatic bottom of the seventh inning.  By the time Alarcon stepped in to the batter’s box with the bases loaded and two outs, the Royals had narrowed the gap to 3-2.  On the second pitch, Alarcon ripped one back up the middle to drive home the game winning runs and give the Royals a split.

With ten games to go, Hope International has already increased their win total by two from a year ago and have doubled their win total in conference from last year.
