1/6/10 - Pruett and Thomas Named All-Americans

Fullerton, CA- Junior Forward Harmony Pruett and Sophomore Defender Shanell Thomas were named Second Team NCCAA All Americans as announced the National Christian College Athletic Association office last month.  Pruett is the leading scorer for the Royals while Thomas is known for her hard nose defense.

Pruett, Hope International’s career leading scorer for Women’s Soccer with 33 goals, led the Royals with 8 goals this year.  Three of her goals were game winners including the lone goal in 1-0 wins over GSAC rivals Biola and Concordia.  She scored two goals apiece against Simpson and Mills.  For Pruett, the junior from Apple Valley, CA, this is the third NCCAA All-American honor of her career.

Head Coach Aaron Siefker stated, “Harmony’s pace and finishing ability has made her a force to be reckoned with on the field.  It is a great accomplishment to be a three time All-American.”

With strong tackles and solid clearing headers, Thomas, the sophomore of Norco, CA, made many forwards think twice about trying to come down the middle against the Royals’ defense.  Aside from putting a stick on several key opponents, the highlight of her season was scoring against Eastern Oregon on a header via a corner kick.  This is the first All-American honor for Thomas.

Regarding Thomas, Coach Siefker commented, “I am pleased Shanell has been recognized by the NCCAA for her strong defensive presence.  She has been a rock in the back and I look forward to coaching her for two more years.”

The Royals finished the year 8-9-1 and just missed qualifying the NCCAA National Tournament.
