10/20/09 - Injuries Mount As Royals Rolled Up On
Riverside, CA- In a match that had big GSAC playoff implications for both Hope International and California Baptist, the last thing that the Royals needed was more injuries- but that is exactly they received. Having two starters out for the season, two more listed day-to-day, and two more injured in the early goings of the match, the Royals did not enough weapons to slow the Lancers and it showed as the Lancers rolled 4-0 on Tuesday afternoon.
With the mash list growing, the Royals (5-7-3, 0-6-1 GSAC) spent most of the game back on defense and struggling to find any type of offensive rhythm. In fact, the Royals managed just one shot for the game which came in the second half by Sophomore Danilo Pereira after the Lancers (3-6-4, 2-5-1 GSAC) had done all of their scoring damage.
The Lancers opened the scoring in the 43rd minute after a cross played in found Gabriel Gonzalez in box and he put the Lancers up 1-0. Just prior to the half time whistle, Gonzalez made it 2-0 with a similar looking goal.
In the second half, the Lancers continued the “goals-come-in-bunches” theory as they tacked on goals three and four within two minutes of each other with the first one coming in the 67th minute.
For the Royals, they hope to get at least a couple of their players back for Saturday when they host Westmont for a 2:30 pm kick-off at Cal State Fullerton.>> Back to Men's Soccer Home Page
