9/21/09 - Jesus Ramos Named GSAC Offensive Player of the Week
Fullerton, CA- Sophomore Midfielder Jesus Ramos was named the GSAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week as announced today by the Golden State Athletic Conference. Last week in the Royals’ 2-0 win over Dominican, Ramos assisted on the first goal and scored the second.
In the 25th minute, the Royals took a 1-0 lead after Ramos split the defense with a pass and Edgar Bran scored on a 1-on-1.
Eight minutes later, Ramos followed up his own shot off the crossbar and headed the ball into the back of the net for ultimately the game’s final 2-0 score. Not a bad days work for a player and team unsure if they would be able to play due to illness.
“I am excited for Jesus,” stated Head Coach Joe Lurker. “I have used him as a utility player throughout the season - at forward, center and outside midfield, and defender. His success is a credit to all the hard work he put in this summer.”
Ramos, from Norco, CA, has been a big part of the Royals starting the season 5-1-1. He is second on the Royals with 4 goals and has scored in four of the last five games. He is currently in a three way tie for the team lead with 3 assists- including two against La Sierra.
After earning three GSAC Player of the Week honors last season, this is their first honor of the 2009 season.>> Back to Men's Soccer Home Page
