9/5/09 - Royals End Scoring Drought… In A Big Way
Santa Clarita, CA- After being held scoreless in their first two games, the Royals broke out of their slump in a big way on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Southwestern (AZ) 10-1 at The Master’s Classic. Freshman Edgar Bran had a hand in half the goals as found the back of the net four times, including the first three goals of the day, and passed out an assist.
Bran, pictured at right, opened the scoring exactly three minutes into the match as he controlled an errant goal kick and dribbled right through the defense to score. Goal two came just over a minute later as Sophomore Craig Jarvis left a ball on top of the box for Bran to hit and just like that it was 2-0. Bran’s third goal came on a penalty kick in the 24th minute.
Junior Anthony Magana collected his first goal as a Royal in the 42nd minute. Seconds before the half, Sophomore Danilo Pereira took advantage of the rare double assist opportunity for his first goal in a HIU uniform following crisp one touch passing from Sophomore Tyler Golden and Jarvis.
After the break, Bran returned the favor and set Jarvis up for his first goal of the season. Less than a minute later, Magana connected with Bran for his fourth goal and a 7-1 lead.
Freshman Austin Lane found himself in the giving mood in the 73rd and 77th minutes as he served up goal scoring balls to Magana and Pereira respectively- both who scored their second goals of the match.
Sophomore Jesus Ramos capped the scoring after Freshman Matthew Howard showed off his skills and then found Ramos with a pass and Ramos in turn found the back of the net.
At the end of the day, the Royals (1-1-1) outshot the Eagles (0-3) 30 -4.
The Royals will have little time to reflect on their scoring outburst as they travel to Riverside on Tuesday to face off with La Sierra at 7:00 pm.>> Back to Men's Soccer Home Page
