9/4/09 - Sloppy Play Dooms Royals

Santa Clarita, CA- Two bad passes in the Royals’ backline led to easy goals for the Cougars as Cal State San Marcos knocked off Hope International 3-0 on Friday afternoon.  Senior Goalkeeper Matt Fike contributed five saves on the day.

In the 23rd minute, a soft pass between two Hope defenders was left gift wrapped for Brandon Zuniga to run onto and two touches later the Cougars (1-2) lead 1-0.

A few minutes later, Sophomore Craig Jarvis had the best scoring chance for the Royals (0-1-1) as he put a shot on target but was denied by Cougar Goalkeeper Kane Leonard.  That shot turned out to be the only shot that the Royals put on goal all game.

After the break, Sophomore Franky Atonya had a chance to tie the game but went high with his shot.

Zuniga made his second and final shot of the day count as he found the back of the net in 62nd minute.

The final tally of the day was set up by another soft pass and Jose Rivas capitalized with 30 seconds left to play.

The Royals will try and find their scoring and winning ways against Southwestern back at The Master’s at 1:00 pm on Saturday.
