Orange, CA- Crammed in between three a days, the Hope International Men’s and Women’s Soccer Teams lent a helping hand sprucing up a house in Orange, CA. The forty plus players and coaches learned the true meaning of teamwork with some manual labor and cleaning.
Working with janitors4JESUS (janitors4Jesus.com), the Royals embodied J4J’s motto of reaching people in need by doing jobs that no one wants to do. Taking out some trash, pulling up a few rooms of carpet, and sweeping away dust are just a few of the chores that the well oiled machines known as the HIU soccer teams handled.
Senior Women’s Soccer Captain Marissa Hand stated, “It was nice for us to bond off the field. For the short amount of time we were there, we made a big difference.”
Sophomore Men’s Soccer Captain Matthew Howard said, “The experience was extremely eye opening, but it was nice to see the teams embrace it with open arms.”
Head Coach Joe Lurker believes the teams bonded amongst themselves but hopes that the project will have a lasting effect on each player and coach individually.
The service project on a Saturday during training camp by the Hope International soccer teams is a perfect example of the service projects done throughout the year by HIU students.
