2/8/10- Hood Named GSAC Player of the Week
Fullerton, CA- Junior Center Champ Hood was named the GSAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week as announced today by the Golden State Athletic Conference. Last week, Hood averaged 27.5 points and 8 rebounds and hit 77.4% of her shots from the field as Hope International split two GSAC games against Concordia and Westmont.
Hood, from Norwalk, CA, dominated the paint with 24 points and 6 rebounds against Concordia on Tuesday. She put her final stamp on the game by hitting the game winning shot with 26 seconds left in the game to give Hope International the 60-59 win. She knocked down 11-14 of shots taken on the night.
On Saturday, Hood went a step further and dropped in 31 points and pulled down 10 rebounds on the road at Westmont. At the end of regulation, Hood knocked down a free throw to tie the score and force overtime. In the end, Westmont pulled off the 92-88 win in double overtime. For the Rio Hondo Community College transfer- this was her second double-double in a Royals uniform (second in the last three games).
Head Coach Dave Ploog stated, “Champ has worked hard, been patient, felt confident and really helped our inside game. We know we can count on her when we give her the ball.”
Having played in all 23 games, Hood is averaging 9.3 points and 4.8 rebounds for the Royals. Hope International is 8-15 on the year and currently tied for 8th place in the tough Golden State Athletic Conference.>> Back to Women's Basketball Home Page
