1/16/10- Up at Half, Royals Cannot Slow Inge and Friends After The Break
Fullerton, CA- Junior Shauna Ricker led the Royals with 8 points as they held a one point lead at half 31-30 on Saturday night. However, Erica Inge went off for 16 second half points to guide the Mustangs to their 80-61 win over the Royals. Ricker and Senior Sara Lycans-Roy finished the game with 12 points for the Royals.
The Mustangs (10-5, 5-2 GSAC) opened the scoring but Ricker responded with four points to give the Royals (6-11, 1-6 GSAC) their first lead.
After the Mustangs forced a tie, Lycans-Roy hit two layups to give the Royals the lead which they would eventually turn into a 13 point margin with 9:18 to play in the half.
But from there, the Mustangs began to chip away at the lead and actually took the back with just over a minute left before the break. Sophomore Morgan Rentie responded by hitting a layup in traffic to give the Royals their one point lead headed to the locker room.
To start the second half, the lead changed hands three different times. When the Mustangs took a seemingly harmless lead of 36-35, no one knew it would be the final time the Royals would see the lead.
The Mustangs were just getting warmed up as they would go on to produce a 50 point second half.
For the Royals they had a respectable half (shooting 48%) but just could not slow the Mustangs.
To put the second half in perspective, neither team had a player in double figures at the break yet the teams combined to have 7 players reach 10 or more points.
The Royals now turn their attention to their game against Azusa Pacific on Tuesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.>> Back to Women's Basketball Home Page
