1/9/10- Royals Let One Slip Away
Fresno, CA- Despite leading 30-19 at the break, the Royals fell to Fresno Pacific on Saturday night 52-46. Senior Sarah Nylander and Sophomore Lindsay Salazar both finished with 13 points.
The first half was all about the three pointers for the Royals (5-10, 0-5 GSAC) as they knocked down six of eight shots from behind the arc. Though it took a couple of minutes to get going, the Royals started their scoring by draining the threes- Nylander hit the first one, followed by Junior Shauna Ricker, Nylander again, and capped off by Lindsay Salazar.
At the 3:19 mark, the Royals took their biggest lead of the game at 15 points after Nylander drilled another three pointer. She finished the half with 11 points.
To put all the threes from the Royals in perspective, the Sunbirds (4-11, 1-4 GSAC) missed their only attempt from deep.
Unfortunately, the Royals left their three point shooting in the half time locker room. They did not make another three the rest of the night.
In fact, the halves were almost completely opposite for the teams as far as offensive production is concerned. After hitting 48% of their shots in the first half, the Royals put home just 19% of their second half shots.
Turnovers became a problem as they had 14 of them in the second half.
Lindsay Salazar was the only Royal to score more than five points after the break.
On Tuesday, the Royals will go to California Baptist in Riverside. They will open the GSAC doubleheader with the men’s teams at 5:30 pm.>> Back to Women's Basketball Home Page
