2/2/10- Cullors and Torovic Receive Little Help Against Eagles

Fullerton, CA- Seniors Marcellus Cullors and Marko Torovic combined for 31 points but the Royals still came up way short against the Concordia Eagles on Tuesday night.  Five different Eagles finished in double figures as Concordia defeated Hope International 82-53.

The first five and half minutes of the game saw two lead changes and three ties.  Hope International actually led 9-6 as four different players had a hand in those points capped off by Freshman Dan Galluccio on a reverse layup.

Unfortunately, once the Eagles tied the score and took the lead on their two possessions, the Royals would not so much as see a tie the rest of the night.

Cullors had a strong first half for the Royals with 14 points on the strength 6-8 shooting including 2-3 from behind the three point line.  He would finish the game with 17 points.  He also finished tied for a game high 6 rebounds.

Both teams shot decent in the first half as the Royals knocked down 42.9% of their shots and the Eagles hit 44.4 % of their shots.

After the break, Torovic took over the lion’s share of the scoring for the Royals as he muscled through the paint for 12 tough points.  Combined with his two points from the first half, Torovic concluded with the night with 14 points.

The Royals slightly increased their shooting to 45.8% but the Eagles came out and shot a lights out 64.3% to run away from the Royals.

The turnover battle came back to haunt the Royals as they turned over the ball 21 times versus just the 7 times for the Eagles (20-2, 10-2 GSAC).

Rebounding is the one area where the Royals matched the Eagles as both teams finished with 31 boards.

On Saturday, the Royals (4-17, 0-12 GSAC) will travel to Santa Barbara for a head to head meeting with Westmont at 7:30 pm.
