1/16/10- Royals Cannot Fend Off Mustangs
Fullerton, CA- With the score tied 51-51 and just under five minutes to play, Hope International picked a bad time to go cold with their shooting and only scored one more point before falling 63-52 to The Master’s on Saturday night. Senior Buai Tut scored a season high 18 points to keep the Royals in the game.
Tut, pictured, ate his Wheaties before the game as he came out ready to take on the Mustangs (12-5, 5-2 GSAC) by himself. He scored the first six points for the Royals (4-12, 0-7 GSAC) and three minutes into the game it was Tut 6- Mustangs 6.
Though The Master’s held an eight point lead at the 5:21 mark, the Royals closed the half on a 10-3 run. Despite Tut being the only Royal in double digits at the break, the Royals trailed by just one 29-28. In fact, Tut hit a layup in the closing seconds to him give half of the Royals’ points for the half.
After a trip to the locker room, the rest of the Royals joined in on the fun and proceeded build an eight point lead themselves on two different occasions. The last eight point lead came at the 10:32 mark with a score of 45-37.
However the lead was short lived as a 9-0 run in just over two minutes gave the Mustangs back the lead. But the Royals took the lead right back. A few minutes later, a jumper by Tut knotted the game at 51.
Unfortunately, the Royals would not hit a field goal the rest of the night while the Mustangs hit enough of their shots, including at the free throw line, to take the game.
Senior Ryan Sewitsky and Freshman Kris Rosales led the scoring with five points each in the second half.
On Tuesday, the Royals return to action as they host Azusa Pacific in the Darling Pavilion at 7:30 pm.
